AFTER-SCHOOL CLUBS

Introducing an after-school club based on key skills from the game of rugby, but with benefits that go far beyond it.

Children learning about rugby in a RugbyKids after-school club

RugbyKids’ fun, structured after-school sessions take children on a journey of sporting imagination.

We do this through a proven programme delivered across a full or half term in weekly classes lasting 45 to 60 minutes.

These non-contact sessions gently introduce children to the basics of rugby. They are run with energy, enthusiasm and excitement by our friendly, experienced RugbyKids Coaches.

Our coaches help to boost each child’s sense of sportsmanship, confidence and self-esteem, as well as improving their ability to catch, pass, kick, run with the ball and play as part of a team.

In other words, we tackle a lot… but without any tackling!

INFO FOR PARENTS

If their school allows or requests, they can wear their normal PE kit. Alternatively, your child can wear their own sports kit or any clothing suitable for running around in. If the classes are outside and your child has football or hockey boots, they can wear them, but trainers are fine.

We provide all the equipment, so your child just needs to turn up. However, exercise can be thirsty work so a bottle of water with a sports cap is very useful, especially in summer.

If the class is on the school field, then yes, they might get muddy… but no more so than in other outdoor PE lessons.

RugbyKids classes are entirely non-contact. No tackling, no scrums, and none of the rough stuff of the grown-up game! Of course, whenever children are running around or playing games, there’s always a chance someone will trip over, bruise an elbow or scratch a knee.

The skills we teach transfer to many other sports. Netball, basketball and cricket all involve catching; football involves kicking; hockey and tennis need great co-ordination; and teamwork applies in the classroom and workplace as well as on the sports field. And did we mention the main thing is having lots and lots of fun?!

With most of our after-school clubs, everything is done through the RugbyKids Parent Area. This online portal is quick, secure and easy to use, and can be accessed from your phone, tablet or laptop. When your child joins RugbyKids, we will set you up with login details. In some instances, however, schools choose to manage payments and you will pay via the school instead.

To book a place at your school’s RugbyKids after-school club, login to your RugbyKids account.
If your child’s school isn’t running our after-school classes yet, we can help you get the ball rolling! Get in touch and we’ll send you details to pass on to the relevant member of staff.

INFO FOR SCHOOLS

All our coaches and coaching assistants are Enhanced DBS checked, and we can provide certificates if required. Our coaches undergo our comprehensive RugbyKids training programme before running classes.

What’s more, many of our coaches have been working with RugbyKids and our sister company Rugbytots for years, so are highly experienced at engaging with, energising and entertaining young children.

We can make a RugbyKids class work in pretty much any space where the children can safely run around. That could be in the gym or school hall, or if the weather allows, out on the school field, on an all-weather pitch, hardcourt or even on a playground.

None! We bring all the balls, cones, kicking tees, goal posts and other equipment used during the class.

While class teachers usually join in or observe our curriculum rugby lessons, after-school classes do not need a member of your staff in attendance.

That said, any staff keen to see what RugbyKids is all about are welcome to come along and help out under the direction of our coaches.

We can take care of all of this. We have an account portal where each parent can register their child’s details and make payment for the classes. This secure, easy-to-use system can be accessed by parents from their phone, tablet or laptop.

Alternatively, some schools prefer to look after the enrolment and payment side of things themselves. In this instance, the school manages memberships and collects payment from parents, and RugbyKids will invoice the school separately.

We’re happy to work with either approach.

It’s great having RugbyKids run one of our after-school clubs at the school. The children love the sessions and enjoy being outside learning about the basics of the game. They look forward to it every week.

Andrew Davis, Head of Sport

My son and daughter both love RugbyKids. Without it, they would not be learning basic rugby skills at this point in their lives – not until secondary school. So it’s a great head start.

Caroline Gardner, Parent

Since RugbyKids have been coming to the school, the children have improved across all of their sport. We as teachers notice a big difference in their skill levels, listening and fitness. It’s a huge bonus that they seem to have loads of fun too!
